thursday morning mind dump

thursday's child, by david bowie

today is thursday. the day after whose child was named one of david bowie’s songs on the album “hours…” the day after what used to be the middle of my week, and the day before what used to be my day off. that’s the second day of the week whose name begins with “t,” but not the second day that begins with tea…ok that was dumb, so sorry about that. it’s the day that was named after the norse god thor, and in turn is traditionally called “fifth day” by quakers in order to eschew the pagan origin of the name…and if you want to learn more about thursday, you’ll have to wiki it. otherwise, enjoy the following mind dump, filling you in on what’s happening in this brain on this morning at this computer.

1. today feels like saturday, because gretch didn’t have to work this morning, so we had breakfast together.
2. gretchen is making a cake. don’t know what inspired her to do that, but she even whipped up some home-made icing (from scratch) and is fixing to decorate it as i write this.
3. my daughter is about to crawl. seriously, she gets up on all fours, and just rocks back and forth. she just hasn’t figured out that she has to move her hands, yet…so she falls over on her face.
4. we went to iowa city for an interview about two weeks ago. they offered us the job. lots of things about the church seemed great, but there was just some feeling i got in my gut that said we weren’t a good fit. God’s shown me in the past week that i made the right decision.
5. my computer has some sort of pop-up virus thing that acts crazy every time i open up an internet program. real annoying. it opens up a new internet explorer window and goes to random sites (ranging from online bible stores to local porn sites, seriously). the thing is that i don’t even use ie. i’m strictly a firefox man. i blame my sister who visited in june.
6. gary lamb introduced me to pandora.com, where you just enter the name of a band you like, and the site will play a bunch of other bands that are similar. pretty cool. another good site is hype machine. no genre matching deal there, but lots of good music that you’ve never ever heard of…ever…
7. my wife is hot. and she makes great lists.
8. i have an interview this weekend in raleigh, nc. great college town, and i think the pastor has a heart for un-churched people. then next weekend, i’m going to st. petersburg for another interview with a methodist church. pastor is very young which could be a strength AND a weakness, depending on how you look at it. anyway, pray for me that i see and follow God’s plan.
9. steve fee’s latest album “burn for you” is growing on me. the first time i heard it on itunes, i wasn’t too impressed, but then my friend played entire songs for me (instead of 30-second itunes samples) and i was feelin’ it a little more. now i can’t get enough.
10. finally started watching 24, season one (i know, six or seven years after it first aired…) and i’m hooked. holy crap, it’s awesome. part of me secretly thinks i am jack bauer…and i’m watching you via repositioned satellites right now. yes, that’s right. i can see you…
