i’m beginning this post at exactly 12:34 in the afternoon. now i’m not superstitious (although i am a little stitious), but i’m pretty sure that means this post will be the most successful in a while. possibly my best ever. watch out.
to call this the song of the week would be to pretend that the last two weeks did not happen…to flippantly rewrite the history books, omitting the past 14 days…to lie to myself and all three of you who read this blog… the truth is that i dropped the ball the last two weeks and did not get around to posting a song of the week. there, i said it. painful? yes. therapeutic? i think so. it feels like a tiny little weight has been lifted off my chest.
in addition to all of that hullabaloo, this saturday will mark the beginning of my xmas-song-a-day post series, which will replace the song of the week for the month of december. (i’ve got some great stuff lined up for you.) so this will be the last weekly music offering of 2007. for that reason, i’m making it a good one.
i heard brandi carlile on accident about four (six maybe?) months ago on hype machine (one of the best websites around for indie music lovers). she’s got such a beautiful, haunting, rich tone to her voice, with a serious growl when it’s appropriate. many nice. i like do you like i like. she’s recorded some great original songs, as well as some nice covers (damien rice’s cannonball, radiohead’s creep, to name a couple). here’s the one that got me hooked: the story by brandi carlile. click below to listen.
comment back to let me know what you think.
