more ups and downs stuff

just got this from tony. his post is talking about what to do when you hit a stagnant creative time, but it really applies to any kind of stagnancy.

Let it simmer and/or marinate…there are some occasions when God is just slowing the process down so that it can cook a little more. God cooks some things in the microwave and some things in the crock pot. There are times when I just have to drop something for a later date. I can’t tell you how many sermon series ideas I have rolling around in my head/heart. I just keep waiting for the right time.

god may be letting you “stew” a little bit…

a couple of weeks ago, my wife made a dish called “new potatoes and green beans” with onions, potatoes…and beans…and BACON!! it was pretty good. (she’s a good cook! and it didn’t hurt that we have some awesome farmer friends who gave us a ton of fresh veggies!) we ate it that night and froze the left-overs for a later date, namely three days ago. when we ate it the second time, the onion and bacon flavors were stronger and the whole thing was a little sweeter. we had left-overs again, but we didn’t freeze them (because you aren’t supposed to freeze and re-heat something multiple times, duh). so the concoction sat in its own oniony, bacony, buttery, salty goodness overnight, soaking and marinating, allowing that rich, sweet/salty flavor combination to permeate every bite of potato and every last bean!

perhaps i’m being a little over-dramatic about food, but by the time we ate the rest the next day, it was seriously a taste sensation of which most men dare not dream. so soft and sweet and delicious.

it was alright when she first made it. but after it had stewed for a while it was incredible.

give it some time.
