30 day holiday health challenge

so i had a few discussions with my wife over the last couple of weeks. one of them had to do with my belly’s increasing size. (she assured me she likes it, but i think she’s exaggerating…) one of them was about teaching our daughters to love and know Christ by setting a better example of loving and knowing Christ. the other one went something like this:

me: those newlyweds are so annoying. blah blah blah. puppy love.
her: what’s wrong with that? they’re cute.
me: err…yeah, i’m just saying that even though we’re not all lovey-dovey we still have a stronger love than ever.
her: really? this is the first good conversation you’ve slowed down to have with me in the past three months…

that’s not what she said, but it’s what i heard. and i was majorly convicted. cause in this time of love and family and giving and whatnot, i’m spending most of my energy on everybody but my wife and my two girls.

then i read this blog post:

You heard about that worship leader getting drunk that night and rolled your eyes…
That pastor who has been flirting with his secretary makes you nauseous…
You can’t believe they let their kids get away with that…

All the while, from Thanksgiving to New Years, you live the most hypocritical life imaginable.
You stuff your face with food till you can’t walk, multiple times, and gain some lbs. in the process.
You let your serving God replace your knowing God.
You ignore your family because you are too busy volunteering and helping someone else.

I see no difference between the first list and the second list.
So let’s stop using the holidays as an excuse to stop being healthy.
Let’s kick off this season with 30 days of physical, spiritual, and emotional health… read the rest…

so i’m taking part in carlos whittaker’s 30-day holiday health challenge. i actually started this weekend by watching my portions in my multiple thanksgiving feasts. more on that later. i’m going to set a spiritual health goal, a relational health goal, and a physical health goal (more on the specifics of these goals this week). to be met by january 1, 2010. it’s like a pre-new-year’s resolution in the busiest season of the year. for my health.

and i’ll document the whole thing, be it my glorious success or my pitiful failure, right here on my personal web space. for all you voyeurs to watch. and whether it inspires you to take similar measures in your own lives, or it forces you to question why you read this blog, it’ll be the real me, trying to be a better me. so…

it’s on like donkey kong
