creative chaos

we’re putting on a couple of big cookouts for the age groups that i lead. i wanted something a little better than sending out an e-vite, so zach and i recorded some stupid videos to tell people about them. here’s the one we made for the 20-something group. their cookout is on [...]

memorial day monday music

i always thought this song was a beautiful, tragic tribute to all those who have lost their lives in combat, although this song is specifically about vietnam. today’s selection is goodnight saigon by billy joel. don’t forget the reason why you get to take the day off and grill out and get slosh [...]

tuesday morning mind dump

the term “mind dump” sounds so gross…but to an extent that’s what i’m doing…taking all the stuff that’s developed in my mind over the past weekend and “dumping” it out here in cyberspace. thanks for understanding…

responsive to the child and to the parents, as opposed to mired in a system
that refuses to change will [...]

how to feel miserable as an artist

i got this from my friend brad, who got it from bendpress.com. it’s written to artists, but most of the ideas apply to just about any creative/leadership role. (another possible title: “what not to do. underline all that apply.”)
1. constantly compare yourself to other artists.
2. talk to your family about what [...]

happy birthday, leonardo

april 15, 1452: sculptor, writer, musician, mathematician, painter and inventor, leonardo da vinci was born in florence, italy.
so, that’s cool.
i don’t know if you all knew this, but a few other fun facts are that he’s a direct descendant of jesus christ (according to dan’s brown’s fictional code), and that he was named after one [...]
