i went to my friend jon’s house tonight to play xbox. we were gonna play a variety of games, such as call of duty, halo3, ncaa football 2008, etc…

well we played about four or five minutes of call of duty, and then skipped over to ncaa2008. now, when jon and i used to play, it was usually pretty even. but tonight i must’ve been feeling it or something, cuz i beat him (no, destroyed him) four games in a row…including one where i was the hoosiers and he was the buckeyes…i believe the final score of that one was 54-21 or something.

so here’s the rub: after all that carnage, we played one more time – a mercy match – he was the usc trojans and i took the university of louisana monroe warhawks…have you heard of that school? neither have i… yet i was still mad when he beat me… i think i might have a problem with competition…

i need to let you all know that i was wrong. on monday, january 21, i posted the following in a mind-dump post:

11. what a great game last night. gretchen rooted for new York simply because she likes the name Eli. so, yay for Eli I guess…

12. I don’t think New York stands a chance against the patriots. I hope it’s a close game, but it seems to me that I’ll be watching the super bowl for the commercials and the half-time show again this year.

well, my friend stacy got on me about that, and i figured, “yeah, what does she know?” turns out she knew more than me. so anyway, yay for eli. and yay for new york.

next year, it’s the cleveland browns all the way. (a guy can dream, can’t he?)

so, i don’t hate ohio any more. and i can’t be mad at the ohio state players. after all, they’re just kids (yeah i’m old enough to say that now…) and they played hard…and on top of all that, it’s silly for me to get that worked up over something so temporary. so there. (still it would’ve been nice to see the big ten beat the sec in more than one big game. it also would’ve been nice to see what chris wells could have done with more carries. the dude was only allowed to touch the ball nine times i the first half, and he had 169 yards.) look for the song of the week today. i’ve got a cool one for you.

tonight was perhaps the icing on a whole week of cake whose main ingredient was crap…or something. it hurts to be a buckeyes fan. i feel like i’m experiencing last year’s bcs spanking all over again, even down to the fact that both years i watched the game with a dudes named matt. (…so i’m not doing that any more…) the sucky thing is that the game should have been a lot closer than it was, because of a couple of really poor errors by the buckeyes. first off, if robiskie hadn’t dropped the pass in the end zone in the first half; and second, if austin spitler hadn’t collided with the kicker on lsu’s punt, giving lsu fifteen yards and a new set of downs…leading to a touchdown. if those two things don’t happen, it’s a tie ballgame. aargh. i can’t stop clenching my fists thinking about it.

i don’t even like the buckeyes any more. i don’t like any other college teams in ohio, either. i don’t like the big ten conference. i don’t like the color scarlet. i don’t like the color red (because it looks too much like scarlet). i don’t like the color grey. i don’t like necklaces made with red yarn and buckeye nuts. i don’t like brutus. i don’t like beautiful orange october foliage. i don’t like charming, small-town street festivals like the bucyrus broughtworst festival or the marion popcorn festival. i don’t like cleveland, cincinnati, or columbus. i don’t like going to the short north district for gallery hop. i don’t like drew carey. i don’t like re-runs of wkrp or family ties. i don’t like warren g. harding…he was a crappy president. (i actually think most political analysts would agree with me on that one, too.) i don’t like the bible belt. i don’t like the exciting, world-record-holding roller coasters of cedar point in sandusky (where the movie tommy boy was set). i don’t like the flat-lands of northern ohio, and i don’t like the hills of southern ohio. i don’t like long, arrow-straight streets covered with shade from the old maple trees lining the curb. i don’t like sitting on my front porch swing at night during a powerful thunderstorm and watching the lightning flashes light up the entire street. i don’t like indian summers in january and amazing spring afternoons in may. i basically don’t like the state of ohio any more. check back in about a month, and i’ll be a buckeye again. i just need some time to myself.

well, i watched the game at my friend matt’s house, and my wife text-messaged me with about 1:20 left in the fourth quarter saying, “don’t come home mad.” (it’s like she knows me or something.) so here i am venting to whoever is crazy enough to read my blog. sorry for yelling.

what a good day to be from ohio.

jim tressel and his conservative offense and powerful defense just made my day. and it was real fun to watch beanie wells run all over the field today. four years straight? five years straight? i don’t know, but that’s pretty impressive. i don’t really care whether or not the right combination of teams losing lets us go to the championship. beating michigan feels like a championship victory. if you’re not from ohio, then you just might not get it.

and i’m officially a loser…with a winning college football team.

i’m watching ohio state at michigan at my boy jeff’s house, and before kickoff we watched a documentary on the 100-year-old rivalry. the highlight for me was a quote by woody hayes that said, “if somebody gives you a compliment, kick them in the shins, unless it is a lady over 80.”

ohio state is owning penn state right now. one minute left in the third, and the bucks are up 24 to 10. i know that lots of people have been dissing ohio state for playing an easy schedule, but this game could have gone either way and they are holding their own. in related news, it was good to see florida lose again. that’s always fun.
