anyway, here are some info plugs for you, if you even care…and even if you don’t care. this is what our lives will look like over the next three months.

first off, WE NEED A RUNNING STROLLER. i don’t know if anybody out there has one that they don’t use, who wouldn’t mind lending theirs to us so that ella can enjoy the outdoors while we kill ourselves and tear our muscles and joints to shreds.

second off, here is our training guide. if any of you decide to run this thing with us, you’ll probably need to reference it. i don’t know if it’s really a good one or not, but it’s the one gretchen found, and so i am going with it.

third off, we’re going to be eating a lot more carbs, so that we don’t crash half-way through our short, 3-mile jaunts. more pasta, more whole grain breads, more …uh… i don’t really know anything else about good carbs… so just more pasta and bread…and maybe chips?

fourth off, if you are interested in running this marathon with us, just go to akronmarathon[dot]org. let me know if you are running and we’ll have a big pasta party or something equally dorky.

fifth off, i need to learn how to do the running man:

i don’t think that this dance will necessarily help us finish the marathon, but it would be fun to do a couple of days after the race…when we can feel our legs again.

well we played about four or five minutes of call of duty, and then skipped over to ncaa2008. now, when jon and i used to play, it was usually pretty even. but tonight i must’ve been feeling it or something, cuz i beat him (no, destroyed him) four games in a row…including one where i was the hoosiers and he was the buckeyes…i believe the final score of that one was 54-21 or something.

so here’s the rub: after all that carnage, we played one more time – a mercy match – he was the usc trojans and i took the university of louisana monroe warhawks…have you heard of that school? neither have i… yet i was still mad when he beat me… i think i might have a problem with competition…

now this may seem like a strange pair to some (all, if you’re not strange) of you, but i would like to compare and contrast the two (a little trick i learned in 6th grade) for you. let’s see…

compare:

both are considered sports. (although i now give them both the sport props they deserve, there was a time when neither seemed like a viable sport in my mind. more like games or something…)

in both, many fans tend to pick a spot on the track or course and just stay there, watching the participants go by. obviously, there are those fans who roam around, but by and large they’re stationary.

both are marketing and endorsement cash cows. both race car drivers and golfers tend to have brand names plastered all over them. you know they’re making a lot of money/support for that.

events for both sports take forever… both run basically all weekend, vs. a football game that is over in a few hours.

both are based on a scoring system where lower is better. (they’re both a race of sorts…)

both sports are too expensive for me to participate in.

both sports are too expensive for me to buy tickets to (maybe if i cared more about them).

both are sports that are fun to watch for free, but that i don’t really care that much about.

contrast:

the noise…

racing is really, really, really expensive. although both sports are costly to participate in, there is really no comparison between the two. (clubs, shoes, and green fees vs. car, parts, supplies, tools, materials, tires, electronics, etc.)

golf is slow, racing is fast.

golf is a singular sport (golfer plays by himself and relies on no one, except for maybe his caddy), whereas racing is a team sport (driver is supported by a big pit crew, as well a a garage crew, and a whole hospitality team).

golf is environment-friendly, racing not so much.

people don’t walk around without a shirt at golf tournaments.

you see more cigars at golf tourneys. i think 90% of people at the race track smoke pall malls…not that i’m hating. pall mall actually sounds like “not bad” in french.

the standout woman participant in racing (danica patrick) is actually a competitor…yet to win first in a pro race, but pretty tough nonetheless. the female golfers who have crossed over to the pga have been anti-climactic at best.

yeah, i finished the post with a gender comment. don’t be mad. i’m just keeping it real.

1. it was good to see the office on tv thursday night. i’m totally psyched out about next week’s all-new episode. but i might be moving…so i’ll prob have to download it.

2. another good show i’m seeing a lot of ads for is monk on sundays. what a well-written show!

4. i missed a lot of good pictures yesterday by forgetting my camera in the hotel. i mean a lot of good people-watching pictures, a few cool they-don’t-have-this-in-georgia pictures, etc. i won’t make that mistake again.

5. i am wearing my last pair of long pants today. i don’t know what i’ll do tomorrow, because by the end of the day my pants are soaked through with sweat. (tmi? perhaps. necessary? prob not.)

6. i ate fried oysters last night. another pic i missed.

7. the soap in my hotel smells like dr. pepper and cherry drink mixed. it’s kinda nasty.

8. i’m feeling some spiritual warfare right now. it’s not as strong as a few days ago, but i think it’s still going on. pray for me to have strength, discernment, wisdom.

9. i miss my girls. i’ve got a couple of my friends that check in with them from time to time while i’m gone, and i appreciate that. but i think i need to be there with them.

10. i’m glad i’ve had my leatherman tool with me this weekend. i bought it a few months ago, and have used it some, but not that much. but it’s come in very handy the past few days. (so much jimmy rigging of antennas, cutting of whatnots, twisting of whatchamacallits, etc…)

2. getting to hang out with my brother’s family, too, this weekend. i love his family. they’re pretty awesome.

3. i didn’t remember to turn in my tournament bracket on time this year. but i’m pretty sure north carolina is gonna win. i was also disappointed to see indiana lose so early. i knew they wouldn’t win it all, but dang cousin…

4. west virginia vs. xavier. good game. but seriously, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws. if west virginia had made the free throw with just a few seconds left, they wouldn’t have gone to overtime. seriously, folks, they’re important.

5. tonight i had ginger ale and lime for a delicious beverage with dinner. quite refreshing.

6. i’m a little bothered by the fact that we have a streaker in my neighborhood.

7. my wife is selling off a bunch of our old stuff on ebay. and she’s making a killing! (actually, it’s not really all that much, but it’s a lot more than the amount that the good will donation center will give you…)

8. my boy phillip is a pretty good blogger. maybe it’s just because i can actually hear him saying the things i read in his posts…with his super thick southern accent that makes all of his jokes that much funnier… but i get a kick out of him. he’s the real deal.

9. very sleepy. must go night-nights…after i watch more basketball…no…must sleep…but must watch…more…basket…ball… that’s why it’s called “march madness,” because it messes with your head.

10. again, wv vs. xav. wowwy.

beware the ides of march, the soothsayer says…but since the sonics didn’t play on the ides of march (that’s march 15), i guess it caught up with them the next day.
